I agree with the fact that helmets should be "Optional" for the 18 and over crowd. To anyone that skateboards, they know that helmets are more often than not, an annoyance. I agree that they are a necessity when it comes to skating large skate obstacles such as pools, or any tranny taller than 6 feet, but when you are an experienced skateboarder who has been skateboarding for a number of years, the choice should be yours if you want to wear a helmet or not. In the state of Montana once you are 18 you are no longer legally required to wear a motorcycle helmet. So why is it that I can drive a motorcycle down the hightway at speeds up to 75 mph without having to wear a helmet, when I have to wear a helmet riding a piece of wood whose speeds rarely top 10 mph? I'm over 18, I know my capabilites, It should be my choice if I want to risk not wearing a helmet or not.
I don't have any good thoughts on how to stop the crime problem at the park, but i assume that the whole reason there are problems is because it's in a public place and dirt bag kids that don't skate have no where else to go. There's nothing you can really do about those kind of kids. Maybe they need some tough love.
